Past Regeneration Activity

Our role has developed from the New Deal for Communities (NDC) Programme, which was set up in 2000 as one of the most ambitious and comprehensive urban regeneration initiatives ever created. Almost £2 billion of grant funding was  across 39 areas of the country over a 10-year period, with a clear mandate to get to the very heart of neighbourhood problems and develop “resident-led” solutions.

As one of the 39 schemes across the country, the Nottingham New Deal for Communities (NDC) Programme was awarded to Radford & Hyson Green with a £55 million grant allocation made available. The main objective was to make a positive difference to the lives of the local people and ensure lasting benefits. Our vision was for a strong community, which actively participates in shaping and delivering services, a community in which people wish to stay and bring up their children.

Ten years on, the NDC Programme through a range of projects has made a dramatic difference to the area and to residents quality of life. Full details are available in the report attached below called 'A Better Place To Live', but in summary -
  • Reduced the fear of crime by 30%
  • Reduced actual crime levels to below the Nottingham City Average
  • Increased satisfaction levels with the area’s housing from 45% to 63%
  • Reduced Mortality Rates and illness ratios
  • Increased the number of local people in paid work
  • Increased the level of business start-ups
  • Increased pupils gaining GCSE passes
  • Increased the number of local students entering Higher Education.
